ResoNix Mega CLD Squares: Heavy Duty Sound Deadening Material Specifications

ResoNix Mega CLD Squares are the ultimate automotive sound deadening materials, designed to provide maximum vibration damping and noise reduction. Measuring 12″ x 12″ and featuring a robust 120 mil thick butyl rubber layer combined with a substantial 12 mil aluminum layer, these 132 mil (3.35mm) thick squares offer unparalleled performance.

What makes it different from our standard ResoNix CLD Squares is the thickness of the aluminum constraining layer. On the original ResoNix CLD Squares it is 4-mil thick. On our Max CLD Squares sound deadener, we tripled it and stepped it up to 12-mil thick.

Their primary function is to lower structural resonance and road noise, creating a quieter driving experience and providing an ideal foundation for high-quality sound systems. The self-adhesive backing ensures easy application on various surfaces, making them an excellent choice for car enthusiasts, professional audio installers, and DIY hobbyists.

Installing ResoNix Mega CLD Squares is straightforward and effective. For optimal results, ensure the surface is free of dirt, oil, and other contaminants by cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol. Once prepared, peel off the backing and press the squares firmly onto the metal or plastic panels.

These CLD squares boast a remarkable 0.64 composite loss factor on the SAE J1637 Oberst Bar Test, highlighting their superior noise reduction and vibration damping capabilities. Independent testing results have demonstrated that ResoNix offers the highest performing constrained layer damping products on the market, making them a reliable choice for those seeking the best in sound deadening technology.

Available in 10 and 20-piece packs covering a total of 10 and 20 square feet respectively, ResoNix Mega CLD Squares cater to various project sizes and needs. Not only are they the best Constrained Layer Damper Sound Deadening Material for car audio systems and general automotive noise reduction, but they are also particularly well-suited for van conversions, RVs, motorhomes, and marine applications, but their utility extends to commercial and industrial noise mitigation, HVAC systems, and even aerospace applications.

By choosing ResoNix Mega CLD Squares, users can achieve a quieter, more refined acoustic environment without compromising on performance. Certified by industry standards and backed by independent testing, including SAE J1637 Composite Loss Factor Testing and Ford WSS-M5G58-A2, ResoNix Mega CLD Squares are a trusted and effective solution for any sound deadening needs.

We get emails regarding this often. The problem is, every application and situation is different. Every panel is different, every car is different, and everyone’s end goals are different. With our ResoNix Sound Deadening Reference Information & Guide section, as well as our ResoNix Sound Deadening Buyers Guide,we try to give you as much information as possible in order to help you make the most informed decision possible. But to make it very quick and simple, in our shop, we almost never do less than 60% coverage on panels that require treatment. This includes door skins and panels, rear decks, roofs, quarter panels, trunks, interior plastic trim, and more. In cases where we are just trying to achieve the best end result possible, we aim for nearly 100% coverage. We figure if we are doing it, we may as well do it once and do it right.

Sound Deadening Performance

Highest-performing sound deadening products available

Sound Deadening Performance

ResoNix CLD Squares and Mega CLD Squares are the highest-performing sound deadening products available, confirmed by SAE J1637 testing (with a composite loss factor of 0.64 at 200Hz) and independent third-party results. While popular brands like Dynamat Extreme and Kilmat claim solid performance, their actual resonance reduction is 8 to 12 times lower, and sometimes more. Both SAE and independent tests use logarithmic scales, meaning small differences in score reflect massive performance gaps. ResoNix also maintains full damping performance across a wide temperature range, where others begin to fail. This level of performance is critical not only for sound system clarity, but also for reducing road noise, improving comfort, and solving structural resonance in automotive, marine, industrial, aerospace, and commercial environments. SAE J1637 testing results can be found on this page & full independent testing data and comparisons are available here: ResoNix Sound Deadening Test Results

Price vs. Performance

The highest value proposition based on cost to performance

Details

Price vs. Performance

You get far more real performance per dollar with ResoNix than anything else on the market. It is also not close. While ResoNix Mega CLD Squares products may cost more per square foot than many competitors, the performance is in a completely different category. Independent testing shows ResoNix Mega CLD Squares are 12 times more effective than Dynamat Extreme and 16 times more effective than Kilmat in resonance reduction. Because these tests use a logarithmic scale, the performance difference is exponential. When you look at how much real damping you get per dollar, nothing else comes close. Cheaper materials that barely work end up being the more expensive option in the long run. Full test data available here: ResoNix Sound Deadening Test Results

Pure Butyl, No Fillers

Uses a high performance Butyl formula that features no fillers that fluff volume with no performance gains

Details

Pure Butyl, No Fillers

Thicker butyl does not automatically mean better. Many brands use an overabundance of cheap mineral fillers like calcium carbonate to bulk up their butyl and make it look impressive, but these materials do nothing for damping. They lower production cost, reduce adhesion strength, and severely weaken the viscoelastic properties that matter. ResoNix uses a pure high performance butyl formula with zero fillers. Every bit of material is there to reduce resonance and improve results. ResoNix delivers real performance, not visual fluff.

No Logos, Lower Cost

No branding gimmicks, just maximum performance per dollar

Details

No Logos, Lower Cost

Branding adds cost to you, the customer, without adding performance value. Just to shed some light, we were quoted 87 cents per square foot to print logos and another 94 cents for full surface coloring when we looked into this, thinking it would have been a miniscule cost. That is almost two dollars per square foot just for marketing, all on a product that is hidden behind panels. That's silly in our opinion. Embossed logos and patterns are even worse. They weaken the aluminum and create flex points that reduce damping performance by more than half of what they could be. Since this material is hidden behind panels, we focus on what actually matters: performance. No logos, no color, no reduced performance, and no jacked up cost just for our benefit with none to you. We focus purely on performance and results. Remember, our slogan is No Gimmicks. No BS. Pure Performance 😊
