ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver is a high-performance sound absorber and thermal barrier designed specifically for under-hood and other high-heat-area applications. It uses the same acoustically superior fiber structure found in our Fiber Mat Black, but features a perforated aluminum facing that serves two important roles. It acts as a radiant heat barrier, and it provides physical protection from heat exposure and light debris.
As sound passes through the perforated surface, the microscopic fibers inside the mat convert airborne acoustic energy into mechanical movement and heat. This makes it highly effective at absorbing mid and high frequency engine and mechanical noise, particularly in engine bays, generator housings, and other areas where traditional materials fail or degrade quickly.
Unlike foam-based hood liners that dry out, shrink, or fall apart over time, ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver maintains its acoustic performance and structural integrity for the life of the vehicle. It's also backed with an automotive-grade, high-temperature peel-and-stick adhesive that allows for simple and secure installation, even on complex surfaces.
This material is purpose-built for environments where both heat and airborne noise need to be controlled, without sacrificing long-term durability or ease of installation. It is ideal for treating the underside of hoods, firewall panels, engine covers, generator housings, and other heat-exposed areas where typical foam liners fail. Whether you’re building a street car, race vehicle, off-road rig, industrial equipment enclosure, or using it to insulate marine engine compartments, ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver offers the right combination of performance, resilience, and practicality.
- Hydrophobic and mold/mildew resistant. Water is of no concern for this product.
- Cut with heavy-duty scissors only. Razor blades or box cutters will not cut cleanly. Open edges are fine and won’t fall apart due to the way the fibers are constructed and woven together.
- Use INSIDE of doors on outer door skins at your own risk. We recommend using ResoNix Guardian or ResoNix Lockout instead for this.
- Our automotive sound absorbing mat absorbs sound best when left uncompressed. Having it compressed in certain tight areas is fine, especially for decoupling purposes, but do not try to stuff areas as tight as possible if your goal is acoustic absorption. It wastes product and decreases its overall acoustic absorption performance.
- Engineered fiber structure. Ultra-fine fibers are bonded to a base in a way that allows them to move freely for sound absorption, while staying intact and resisting shedding. Unlike melt-blown materials that fall apart easily, this construction maintains performance and durability.
- 0.5″ thick at rest and compressible down to about 4mm in pressure points.
- 60″ x 40″ (16.6 Square Feet) per sheet.
- 300/600 Grams per square meter.
- Thermal Performance: 0.27 K-Factor (ASTMC518).
- The Edges do NOT need to be sealed and are perfectly stable.
- Automotive-grade peel-and-stick adhesive backed for easy installation.
- Sound Absorption Coefficient tested to ASTM C423 Standards. See technical specification sheets for sound absorption data.
Sound absorbers are pretty simple. What you put in is exactly what you get out of them. The more surface area you cover with an effective absorber like ResoNix Fiber Mat, the more unwanted noise you remove from the environment. There is no magic percentage or formula. To effectively absorb noise, the material must be placed between the noise source and the area you want to keep quiet. Partial coverage will yield partial results. Full coverage will yield full results. Absorbers do not block noise or isolate vibration like other materials. They strictly reduce airborne sound by converting it into heat within the fiber structure. The more you treat, the more effective the result.
We get emails regarding "how much should I use" often. The problem is, every application and situation is different. Every panel is different, every car is different, and everyone’s end goals are different. With our ResoNix Sound Deadening Reference Information & Guide section, as well as our ResoNix Sound Deadening Buyers Guide, we try to give you as much information as possible in order to help you make the most informed decision possible.

ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver - Car Hood Liner & Sound Absorber vs. Others
More about ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver - Car Hood Liner & Sound Absorber
Areas of use
This is the most common application for ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver. Installed on the underside of the hood, it helps absorb engine noise while reflecting radiant heat away from the hood panel. This reduces heat soak and cuts down on unwanted mechanical noise entering the cabin through the firewall and cowl area.
Installed directly on the engine-facing side of the firewall, Fiber Mat Silver reduces airborne engine noise and heat before it can pass into the cabin. The aluminum facing reflects radiant heat away from the firewall structure, helping protect the interior from high thermal loads while the internal fiber structure absorbs sound before it can enter the cabin.
Applied to the underside of the transmission tunnel, this treatment helps reduce heat and noise transfer from the drivetrain. Especially useful in performance vehicles where thin sheet metal and close exhaust routing cause high cabin temperatures and mechanical noise.
Common in cab-over vans, RVs, and box trucks, these removable covers sit directly over the engine and are a major source of cabin noise and heat. Installing Fiber Mat Silver on the inside of the cover helps absorb mechanical noise while shielding against radiant heat.
In mid- and rear-engine vehicles, interior-facing panels often separate the engine bay from the passenger area. Lining these panels with Fiber Mat Silver helps block engine noise and reduce cabin heat without taking up space or interfering with access.
ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver is ideal for lining the inside of generator enclosures in RVs and camper vans, where it helps block airborne mechanical noise and reduce radiant heat escaping into nearby structures. It can also be applied to the interior-facing cabin walls adjacent to the generator compartment to further minimize noise and thermal intrusion into the living space.
In motorsport and high-performance builds, custom panels are often fabricated to isolate the cabin from the engine bay. Installing Fiber Mat Silver on the engine-facing side of these panels provides a compact and effective solution for controlling noise and heat in one simple solution.
These removable panels, typically used to access inboard engines, are one of the biggest sources of noise and heat transfer in marine vessels. Applying ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver to the inside of the cover absorbs airborne mechanical noise and reflects radiant heat, helping reduce both panel and cabin temperatures as well as intrusive engine drone. This is especially useful on standard inboard engine bay covers, where large flat panels sit directly above the engine and radiate both heat and sound into the cabin. It is also an excellent option for floor hatches, bench seats, or other removable covers commonly found in motor yachts, sport boats, and similar vessels.
In larger boats and yachts, rigid partitions often separate the engine room from adjacent living or utility spaces. ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver can be applied to the engine-facing side of these bulkheads to help block mid and high frequency mechanical noise while reflecting radiant heat away from the wall structure. This improves onboard comfort and protects temperature-sensitive equipment located near these barriers.
Generators are one of the most annoying sources of noise on any vessel. Applying Fiber Mat Silver to the inside walls of generator compartments helps control both airborne noise and radiant heat before they reach living quarters or electrical bays. It also offers a more durable and longer-lasting solution than typical foam-based acoustic liners, which often degrade quickly in high-heat marine environments.
The interior walls of inboard engine compartments are often large flat surfaces that radiate engine heat and reflect mechanical noise into adjacent areas. Applying ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver here improves thermal insulation and reduces harsh engine noise without interfering with service access.
High ambient temperatures from adjacent engine rooms or poor ventilation can cause elevated temperatures inside battery or electrical compartments. Installing ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver on the heat-facing side of these enclosures helps protect sensitive electronics from radiant heat while also absorbing airborne mechanical noise from engines, generators, or pumps.
In boats where the engine room shares a wall with sleeping quarters or helm areas, ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver can be used on the engine-facing side of that wall to prevent noise and heat from bleeding into the cabin. This application helps reduce engine drone, improve rest conditions, and limit the need for additional cooling equipment.
ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver can be used to line custom-fabricated covers or panels that surround hot engine components such as exhaust manifolds or risers. The aluminum facing helps reflect radiant heat away from surrounding structures, while the fiber layer absorbs exhaust and engine noise.
One of the most effective areas to apply ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver in a UTV is the firewall, specifically on the interior-facing side that borders the engine bay. This helps reduce the transfer of engine noise and radiant heat into the cabin while staying protected by surrounding body panels.
In UTVs with mid or rear engines, the bulkhead separating the engine from the cabin is a key source of heat and noise. Installing Fiber Mat Silver on the cabin-facing side of this panel reduces engine drone and heat soak, improving comfort and cabin insulation.
Some UTVs feature removable engine access panels or covers. Applying ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver to the underside of these panels helps manage both airborne engine noise and radiant heat without interfering with access or airflow.
Generators in industrial environments are a common source of both noise and radiant heat. Applying ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver to the interior panels of generator housings helps absorb airborne mechanical noise while the aluminum facing reflects radiant heat away from the enclosure structure. This reduces external heat soak and improves working conditions in adjacent areas.
Many industrial machines and power units use enclosed engine bays that radiate heat and transmit engine noise into surrounding workspaces. Lining the interior of these compartments with ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver minimizes cabin or facility noise and helps shield nearby surfaces and operators from excessive heat buildup.
Compressors and pumps produce high-frequency airborne noise and often radiate significant heat through their housings. ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver is ideal for treating the interior panels of these enclosures, reducing unwanted noise and helping deflect radiant heat from reaching other nearby components or operators.
Rooms or booths that house heat-producing machinery can transfer radiant heat and mid to high frequency noise to surrounding workspaces. Installing ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver on interior panels facing these machines helps mitigate both sound and heat before they spread throughout the building.
Custom-built enclosures for industrial equipment such as kilns, burners, or high-output motors can benefit from ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver applied to their interior surfaces. This treatment reduces ambient noise while limiting radiant heat transfer to nearby machinery, wiring, or sensitive equipment.
Cabinets that contain or sit adjacent to large motors or drive units often experience heat buildup and airborne mechanical noise. Applying ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver inside these panels helps reduce thermal transfer while absorbing unwanted sound, improving equipment longevity and reducing operator fatigue.
Panels or barriers that sit near exhaust pipes, manifolds, or other heat-intensive components can be treated with ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver to help reflect radiant heat and absorb surrounding mechanical noise. This is especially useful in shared workspaces where temperature and noise control are critical for comfort and safety.
Applying ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver to the cabin-facing side of engine bulkheads or firewalls helps reduce engine noise and block radiant heat from entering the cockpit or cabin. This is especially effective in piston-powered aircraft, where firewall temperatures and mechanical noise levels are higher than in turbine aircraft. The aluminum facing reflects heat while the internal fiber structure absorbs mid and high frequency engine noise.
Removable cowling panels and engine covers can transmit heat and noise into surrounding structures or compartments. Lining their interiors with ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver helps manage radiant heat buildup and suppress airborne engine and exhaust noise, particularly in tightly packaged engine bays or nose-mounted powerplants.
Auxiliary power units and high-load avionics systems often generate both heat and mechanical noise. ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver can be applied to the side of nearby fuselage partitions that face these components to help reflect radiant heat and reduce equipment noise from bleeding into crew or passenger areas.
Hydraulic systems and mechanical assemblies in landing gear bays can be sources of unwanted vibration, heat, and noise. Fiber Mat Silver helps mitigate these issues when applied to panels or shields separating gear bays from adjacent cabins or cargo holds, offering improved comfort and thermal protection.
Custom enclosures or panels surrounding bleed-air ducts or exhaust assemblies can benefit from ResoNix Fiber Mat Silver. Its radiant barrier limits heat transfer to surrounding structures, while its acoustic fiber layer absorbs mechanical and flow noise from nearby systems or outlets.
