ResoNix Fiber Mat Black Edition features an automotive-grade adhesive to allow for an easy and lifetime-lasting install. Fiber Mat is an automotive sound absorber that works via the microscopic fibers that convert the passing acoustic energy into mechanical energy (the moving of the fibers) and thermal energy, from the friction of moving through the scattered fibers.
Note: Use Heavy Duty Scissors Or Insulation Shears To Cut ResoNix Fiber Mat
It being so soft and plush also offers it to not just being an automotive sound absorbing mat, but also acts as an excellent decoupler that can be used in doors, rear decks, and anywhere else you can fit it.
It is a better decoupler than any Closed Cell Foam on the market as it is extremely soft and compliant and is highly suggested to be used on any larger panels. Due to the nature of the product, we still offer our CCF Decoupler products to handle the decoupling of small panels and to spot-treat certain areas.
Note: Do not use this inside of a door cavity. Use ResoNix Guardian or ResoNix Lockout for sound absorption purposes that location.
- Hydrophobic and mold/mildew resistant. Water is of no concern for this product.
- Cut with heavy-duty scissors only. Razor blades or box cutters will not cut cleanly. Open edges are fine and won’t fall apart due to the way the fibers are constructed and woven together.
- Use INSIDE of doors on outer door skins at your own risk. We recommend using ResoNix Guardian or ResoNix Lockout instead for this.
- Our automotive sound absorbing mat absorbs sound best when left uncompressed. Having it compressed in certain tight areas is fine, especially for decoupling purposes, but do not try to stuff areas as tight as possible if your goal is acoustic absorption. It wastes product and decreases its overall acoustic absorption performance.
- Engineered fiber structure. Ultra-fine fibers are bonded to a base in a way that allows them to move freely for sound absorption, while staying intact and resisting shedding. Unlike melt-blown materials that fall apart easily, this construction maintains performance and durability.
- 0.5″, 1″, and 2″ thick at rest and compressible down to about 4mm, 6mm, and 10mm respectively in pressure points.
- 40″ x 60″ (16.66 Square Feet) per sheet
- 300/600/1200 Grams per square meter
- Thermal Performance: 0.27 K-Factor (ASTMC518)
- The Edges do NOT need to be sealed and are perfectly stable on the new Black Edition version
- Automotive-grade peel-and-stick adhesive backed for easy installation
- Sound Absorption Coefficient tested to ASTM C423 Standards. See technical specification sheets for sound absorption data.
Sound absorbers are pretty simple. What you put in is exactly what you get out of them. The more surface area you cover with an effective absorber like ResoNix Fiber Mat, the more unwanted noise you remove from the environment. There is no magic percentage or formula. To effectively absorb noise, the material must be placed between the noise source and the area you want to keep quiet. Partial coverage will yield partial results. Full coverage will yield full results. Absorbers do not block noise or isolate vibration like other materials. They strictly reduce airborne sound by converting it into heat within the fiber structure. The more you treat, the more effective the result.
We get emails regarding "how much should I use" often. The problem is, every application and situation is different. Every panel is different, every car is different, and everyone’s end goals are different. With our ResoNix Sound Deadening Reference Information & Guide section, as well as our ResoNix Sound Deadening Buyers Guide, we try to give you as much information as possible in order to help you make the most informed decision possible.

ResoNix Fiber Mat Black Edition - Self Adhering Automotive Sound Absorber & Decoupler vs. Others
More about ResoNix Fiber Mat Black Edition - Self Adhering Automotive Sound Absorber & Decoupler
Areas of use
The roof is one of the largest sources of wind noise in most vehicles and also one of the most vulnerable to resonance. It is also the most important area where aftermarket products can actually make a difference in reducing wind noise. ResoNix Fiber Mat Black Edition is placed between the headliner and roof skin to absorb turbulence and prevent resonance buildup. When paired with proper CLD, this drastically improves cabin quietness and enhances sound system performance by stopping roof flex and airborne energy reflections.
Fiber Mat Black Edition is highly effective when installed on the hidden side of plastic fender liners or directly onto the metal wheel well surface. This treatment cuts down significantly on tire slap, road texture noise, and turbulent airflow that enters through this part of the vehicle. This is one of the most important locations to address when aiming to reduce overall cabin noise.
Learn how to properly treat wheel wells here.
Use Fiber Mat Black Edition between the rear deck panel and the underlying metal structure to eliminate buzzes and rattles caused by subwoofer pressure. This treatment also reduces external noise entering the cabin from the trunk, including road noise and exhaust drone. It is especially helpful in sedans and coupes with louder-than-average exhaust systems or poorly sealed trunk cavities.
Interior firewalls are a major source of engine and drivetrain noise. ResoNix Fiber Mat Black Edition can be installed directly onto the cabin side of the firewall to absorb this noise before it reaches the interior. This application is useful in virtually all vehicles, especially those with minimal factory insulation. For external firewall use, we recommend Fiber Mat Silver due to its additional heat resistance.
These areas are notorious for wind noise and trim panel rattles, especially in vehicles with frameless windows or aging door seals. Fiber Mat Black Edition decouples interior trim panels from the metal pillar structure, preventing unwanted buzzes while absorbing wind turbulence that tends to enter through seams and weatherstripping.
The trunk is a common path for outside noise like exhaust drone and rear tire noise to enter the cabin. Installing ResoNix Fiber Mat Black Edition under the trunk floor liner and behind quarter trim panels reduces these noises significantly. This treatment also improves cabin quietness without taking up space, and helps reduce masking noise that can interfere with your sound system’s clarity.
The space beneath the rear seats is often a weak point for noise intrusion, especially in trucks and SUVs. This area typically allows road noise and exhaust drone to enter with little resistance. Installing Fiber Mat Black Edition here helps to absorb and block this noise before it reaches the cabin, providing a quieter ride for rear passengers.
Mechanical noise and heat from the drivetrain often travel through the transmission tunnel and center console area. Applying Fiber Mat Black Edition here helps absorb that energy, reducing gear whine, vibration, and radiant heat. This is especially helpful in performance vehicles, older platforms, or manual transmission setups.
After passing through the firewall, engine noise continues into the dashboard area. Installing Fiber Mat Black Edition behind the dash and around HVAC components helps absorb this remaining noise. This treatment has proven very effective in modern 4-cylinder economy cars, where engine harshness is often noticeable at low RPM.
Front kick panel areas are a weak point for noise transfer from the front tires. Applying Fiber Mat Black Edition behind these trim pieces helps absorb wind turbulence and tire noise entering through the front wheel wells. This treatment is especially beneficial in compact sedans and crossovers where thin construction and minimal factory treatment are common.
In SUVs, hatchbacks, and vans, the rear quarter cavity behind the trim panels is often a major source of tire noise, wind turbulence, and panel resonance. Installing Fiber Mat Black Edition behind these panels eliminates vibrations and absorbs external noise that would otherwise reach the cabin. This is a high-value location for improving rear seat comfort and overall vehicle refinement.
When space allows, install ResoNix Fiber Mat Black Edition under the carpet to absorb road noise and cabin resonance that radiates through the floorpan. While not a noise barrier on its own, it is highly effective on its own or as a decoupling layer beneath an MLV-type barrier. Its low compression characteristics make it ideal for this type of layered application.
This is one of the most common and highest-impact places to treat on a yacht or marine vessel. While both versions of Fiber Mat use the same high-performance acoustic absorber, Fiber Mat Silver features a radiant heat-reflective aluminum facing that helps reject heat from reaching the cabin. Applied to the interior of engine compartment covers, this treatment helps absorb airborne engine noise and reduce heat transfer into surrounding spaces.
The inner surfaces of the engine room, such as access doors, partition walls, and surrounding panels, are key paths for airborne engine noise to enter nearby cabins and common areas. Installing ResoNix Fiber Mat Black Edition here helps absorb high-frequency mechanical noise, whine, and harshness without taking up much space. This is a common area to target for customers looking to make long trips more comfortable.
Smaller generator enclosures are another great place to use Fiber Mat Black Edition. It effectively absorbs high-pitched fan and motor noise before it leaks into sleeping quarters or salons, especially during overnight anchoring or low-speed cruising. This is a low-effort but high-reward treatment that pairs well with other mechanical space upgrades.
Treating the interior walls of staterooms, especially those adjacent to generator rooms or loud communal areas, can make a noticeable difference in overnight comfort. Fiber Mat Black Edition fits behind upholstery or trim panels and absorbs stray noise before it builds up inside the sleeping space. This adds a level of refinement that is often overlooked but very much appreciated by owners and guests.
Cabin ceilings are often a weak point for noise intrusion from foot traffic, upper deck equipment, or general airborne energy from above. Installing ResoNix Fiber Mat between the headliner and ceiling structure helps absorb that noise before it enters the space below. It is a clean and effective way to improve comfort throughout salons, galleys, and sleeping quarters.
These panels are commonly responsible for echo, boom, and hollow noise created by wave slap and water impact. Installing Fiber Mat Black Edition behind the finished trim reduces these unwanted reflections and creates a tighter, more solid-sounding interior. This is particularly effective above the waterline where panel cavities are easily accessible.
In multi-deck builds, Fiber Mat Black Edition can be installed between subfloor and decking layers to reduce noise transfer from high-traffic areas like salons or kitchens into sleeping quarters below. While not always the first place to start, this application becomes increasingly valuable in higher-end builds or live-aboard vessels.
Hollow cabinetry, electrical compartments, and large service hatches often introduce unwanted rattles, echo, and buzz. Installing Fiber Mat Black Edition on the inside surface of these panels not only tightens up the acoustic response but also helps absorb mechanical noise from electronics, pumps, and other onboard systems that might be installed nearby.
ResoNix Fiber Mat can be installed on the cabin-facing side of the firewall behind the dash panel to absorb engine noise and mechanical harshness that radiates into the cockpit. This is the most critical and effective area to treat on a UTV, especially in models where the engine is mounted directly behind or beneath the passenger area.
On many UTVs, the rear wall of the cab or plastic engine cover panel acts as the primary barrier between the cabin and the engine compartment. Installing Fiber Mat behind this panel helps absorb airborne engine noise, fan noise, and intake resonance before it enters the seating area.
Some UTVs have accessible under-dash areas or removable service panels that separate the cabin from the front of the engine bay. Installing ResoNix Fiber Mat on the back side of these panels can further help reduce noise transmission from the motor, cooling system, and drivetrain components.
Machine rooms are often filled with motors, fans, and mechanical equipment that produce constant airborne noise. Installing ResoNix Fiber Mat on the interior walls, ceilings, or access panels helps absorb this energy before it transfers into adjacent rooms, stairwells, or offices. This is one of the most effective and common applications in commercial and industrial environments where noise is a known issue.
Compressor and pump rooms are typically small, enclosed spaces that generate high levels of mid and high frequency noise. ResoNix Fiber Mat can be installed on surrounding walls, ceilings, or framed baffle structures to absorb unwanted energy and reduce the noise footprint of these systems. It’s an easy and high-impact solution that improves nearby work conditions without major structural changes.
Whether permanent or portable, diesel generators are a constant source of engine drone, fan noise, and resonance. Lining the interior of the generator housing with ResoNix Fiber Mat helps absorb airborne noise before it escapes into surrounding areas. This is especially useful for sites where generators operate near occupied structures or sensitive equipment.
Spaces housing electrical equipment, control panels, or network/server gear are often overlooked when it comes to acoustic treatment. These rooms typically produce persistent hum, fan noise, and relay chatter that can carry through shared walls. Installing ResoNix Fiber Mat on interior surfaces or inside surrounding wall cavities helps absorb this noise before it reaches nearby offices or workspaces.
Dust collection systems and high-speed industrial blowers generate aggressive airflow noise and mechanical whine. Installing ResoNix Fiber Mat inside custom enclosures or prefab metal housings helps absorb that energy and reduce its spread across the building. This solution holds up far better than foam and provides a cleaner, longer-lasting finish.
Removable panels and access doors on industrial equipment often reflect or radiate unwanted noise during operation. Lining the inner surface of these panels with ResoNix Fiber Mat helps absorb mid and high frequency mechanical noise before it escapes into the work environment. It’s an easy upgrade that improves acoustic performance without compromising service access.
Air handler rooms often contain large fans and motors that generate significant airborne turbulence and hum. Installing ResoNix Fiber Mat on the interior walls or ceiling helps absorb this energy before it travels through ducts or walls. This is especially effective in commercial buildings where mechanical rooms are near occupied areas.
Includes CNC routers, mills, lathes, and other automated machinery. ResoNix Fiber Mat can be installed inside machine enclosures, base panels, or removable access covers to absorb spindle noise, motor whine, and airborne energy from moving components. This helps reduce overall noise levels and improve working conditions in production areas.
These systems are some of the loudest sources of mid and high frequency noise in industrial environments. Installing ResoNix Fiber Mat inside surrounding enclosures helps absorb compressor whine, pump chatter, and vacuum noise before it spreads across the building. A simple and effective upgrade for any facility running continuous mechanical equipment.
Dust collectors and high-speed fan systems generate loud airflow and motor turbulence that carries across large spaces. ResoNix Fiber Mat can be used inside custom or prefab housings to absorb this energy, reduce airborne noise, and make the surrounding environment safer and more comfortable for nearby workers.
Mechanical presses, stamping lines, and heavy machinery produce sharp, high-impact sound during operation. ResoNix Fiber Mat can be applied to the inside of guarding doors, access covers, and machine body panels to absorb this noise and reduce reflected energy. It helps bring down peak noise levels without interfering with maintenance or safety.
Control panels and motor control center rooms often house transformers, relays, and contactors that generate persistent hum and chatter. Installing ResoNix Fiber Mat inside these cabinets or on surrounding room walls helps absorb electrical noise before it reaches nearby workspaces, improving comfort and reducing distractions.
Robotic arms and automated systems create high-frequency servo whine and mechanical noise during operation. Fiber Mat can be installed inside enclosures or automation panel cabinets to help reduce this noise and improve the working environment for operators stationed nearby.
Installed behind interior wall or ceiling trim to absorb wind, engine, and propeller noise entering the cabin. Ideal for reducing cabin resonance and improving overall in-flight comfort in piston aircraft, turboprops, and rotorcraft.
Applied to the cabin-facing side of the firewall or forward bulkhead to absorb engine noise and vibration energy before it enters the cockpit. Especially useful in experimental aircraft and other platforms where engine noise is a persistent issue.
Used inside enclosures or panel cavities near avionics and electrical systems to reduce fan noise, relay clicking, and electrical buzz that may otherwise bleed into the cabin.
Installed behind interior panels in the aft cabin or near equipment bays and landing gear housings, ResoNix Fiber Mat helps absorb noise from prop wash, gear operation, and structural vibration. These areas often act as acoustic weak points, especially in aircraft with minimal factory insulation or exposed cavities.
Placed between headliners and the roof structure to absorb wind turbulence and vibration noise. Commonly beneficial in helicopters and smaller fixed-wing aircraft with thin or composite roof construction.

The primary difference between Fiber Mat Black Edition and Fiber Mat Silver is the top scrim material. Both products are identical in their sound absorption, decoupling, and thermal insulation properties. However, the Silver version features an aluminum scrim that acts as a radiant heat barrier. This aluminum layer enhances its ability to reflect radiant heat, making it especially effective for reducing heat transfer.
The Fiber Mat Silver is ideal for applications like the underside of car hoods and the engine side of the firewall, where additional heat reduction is beneficial. By reflecting radiant heat away from the vehicle interior, it adds to its thermal insulation capabilities. The Black Edition lacks this aluminum scrim and is suited for general sound absorption and insulation purposes within the vehicle.
In summary, while both editions offer the same high-quality performance in sound absorption and thermal insulation, the Fiber Mat Silver’s aluminum scrim provides added radiant heat protection for areas exposed to higher temperatures.
