Earthworks M23 G2 - Acoustic Measurement Microphone

The Earthworks M23 G2 is a high-precision reference microphone built for audio professionals who need reliable, accurate, and consistent measurement data. Whether you're tuning PA systems, measuring room acoustics, designing loudspeakers, or collecting environmental data, the M23 G2 delivers true-to-source results with minimal coloration and excellent time-domain performance.

This second-generation model improves on the original with lower current draw, better interface compatibility, and a more compact, travel-ready form factor. Earthworks also includes all the essentials in the box, like a custom calibration chart, windscreen, and rugged storage case.

What’s New in Gen-2

  • Lower phantom power draw: 7.2 mA at 48 V extends battery life and supports more mics per interface.

  • Reduced sensitivity: Now −40 dBV/Pa for better headroom with interfaces that can’t handle hot inputs.

  • Shorter and lighter: Over 1.5 inches shorter than the original, making placement and storage easier.

  • Included accessories: Comes with an OMW2 windscreen, MC1 clip, calibrator adapter, and case.

Applications

  • Live sound: PA system tuning, delay and phase alignment, SPL monitoring.

  • Studio and post-production: Control room analysis, multichannel speaker setup, room mode diagnosis.

Impressive consistency and build quality

"Over the years, I've used several microphones—AudioControl, Dayton, UMIK-1, UMIK-2, CSL, and a few others—and none have given me the consistency and accuracy of the M23 G2. I can measure a system several days apart, and the variations between measurements are minimal, something that didn't happen with the other microphones I've owned. I'm truly impressed. Anyone looking for a reliable microphone should buy an M23 without hesitation. I bought just the microphone, not the tuning kit, and it still came with a very good quality XLR cable at no extra cost."

Worthy upgrade

"At first I thought this M23 (a graduation gift to myself) would just be an OCD-relieving tool. The "itch" in brain was: tuning an expensive, painfully fabricated audio system with an imperfect microphone is like drawing a portrait while wearing dirty glasses with warped lenses. While I was dreaming about how the new mic would suddenly "open up" my system, I tried to stay realistic and anticipated that my UMIK-1 had already brought me 95% of the way there. So it was genuinely surprising to find a noticeable discrepancy between the UMIK-1 (well treated, always stored at reasonable temperatures) and the M23. Yes, the difference was within 2-3 dB, but those 2-3 dB bring you so much closer to the natural sound you've been chasing through countless hours of "by ear" tuning. It might seem like an expensive small piece of equipment, but it's reliable and will always be solid reference point. It's also will be used for my future active home system and every friend's system I will be tuning. As always, ResoNix was fast and reliable with delivery and communication. Looking forward to purchasing from here again."

After years of using my

"After years of using my umik-1 to tune my car and friends/customers cars i was blown away with the difference that the earthworks mic made after my first tune using it. The difference in accuracy is phenomenal, and i was able to get my tweeters to sound way better. The build quality of this mic is also top tier and i’m excited to have it for a long time"

My number one choice for audio system measurement

"I'm the owner of the car audio design and fabrication company, Audio in Reach. Throughout my career as a high-end car audio installer, I've used nearly every measurement system available, from the Umik, Dayton UMM6, Behringer, JL MAX, and finally, Earthworks. My experience with the Earthworks M23 has been flawless. Two things stand out most about this microphone: 1) The consistency of measurements over time in various automotive conditions. From New York winters to Houston summers in low and high humidity conditions, this microphone delivers consistent, reliable measurements even weeks apart. 2) The correlation between what I hear vs what I measure is the closest with this microphone. When I've completed the objective portion of tuning using this microphone, the tune only requires small changes of 1-1. 5db to sound balanced to my ears. With other measurement mics and systems, I've had to make EQ changes up to +-9db due to the inaccuracies of defective mics or design flaws inherent in the mics. To anyone serious about accurately capturing the acoustical behavior of your sound system, my only recommendation is this Earthworks microphone."
