ResoNix Barrier - Moldable Noise Barrier MLV Replacement Specifications
ResoNix Barrier is a high-performance, 3-layer noise barrier system designed to outperform and replace traditional Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) solutions in modern vehicles and other demanding environments. Each sheet is 54"x36" and consists of a dense 1/32″ thick lead core (2 lbs per square foot) sandwiched between two 3mm layers of our ResoNix CCF Decoupler 3S closed cell foam. This combination delivers unmatched noise-blocking performance, easier installation, and better formability than outdated MLV products.
The primary function of a noise barrier is simple: block airborne noise. And the only way to do that effectively is with mass. While traditional MLV offers around 1 lb per square foot, ResoNix Barrier doubles that to 2 lbs per square foot with a thinner profile and much easier workability. This higher density allows it to stop more sound energy, particularly in the low-frequency ranges common in road, engine, and tire noise. Unlike common foam or lightweight “soundproofing” gimmicks that claim to block noise but actually don't, ResoNix Barrier is engineered to deliver real, measurable results.
ResoNix Barrier is very moldable and formable, making it a perfect fit for today’s complex automotive panels. Traditional MLV sheets are heavy, stiff, and difficult to install cleanly in curved or tight spaces. ResoNix Barrier bends easily without kinking or fighting back, reducing install time and improving end results. It can be shaped by hand and held in place on vertical or upside down surfaces with fasteners like riv-nuts or well-nuts. For horizontal surfaces, gravity alone is often enough to keep it in position.
It is also an ideal material for building high-performance door block-off plates in car audio systems. ResoNix Barrier helps contain rear wave pressure, reduces panel resonance, and allows the door cavity to act more like a true enclosure, improving midbass accuracy and output when using it to seal access holes on inner door skins. What most people don’t realize is that modern vehicles often feature complex three-dimensional shapes and curves on the inner door skins. These designs make traditional block-off methods, like using ABS plastic, almost impossible without major time investment, labor, and lots of headaches along the way. ABS has to be heat-molded to match the door’s shape, which is difficult, messy, and not always precise. In some cases, the door panel even sits into the openings on the inner skin, making traditional methods completely unworkable without a lot of fabrication. ResoNix Barrier solves all of these problems. Its moldable structure easily conforms to these contours without the need for heat guns, clamps, or complex shaping, making it the most practical and high-performance option for this application.
While ResoNix Barrier does not come with an adhesive backing, this is by design. Most adhesives cannot hold the weight of a proper barrier over time, especially in vertical or overhead applications. Instead, users are free to mount the material using the most secure and application-appropriate method. The product is suitable for automotive, marine, UTV, industrial, and commercial applications. Essentially, anywhere blocking noise matters.
Whether you're looking to improve cabin comfort, reduce road noise, isolate engine compartments, or build better sounding audio systems, ResoNix Barrier provides a practical and highly effective solution for real noise control.
